Pepper Ramen at Noodle House Ken
Looks like these guys are now called Noodle House Ken (150 Orchard Road #01-17/18, Orchard Plaza, 6235-5540 - sorry it took so long to get that address up there, guys...that was one of my first blog entries before I started entering details in), and they've added a special koshou (pepper) ramen for S$12 (US$7). I decided to give it a try, and I didn't regret it. Using a salt-based yet milky broth, this apparently features some kind of special pepper (from Japan, I assume?), although honestly I couldn't taste it. It didn't matter. It was still really good; thinner than the normal broth at Noodle House Ken, but still full of flavor, thanks to all the borderline-excessive salt. Inside, the fillings are your usual suspects of bamboo shoots, pork slices, and seaweed, but they also threw in an ume plum, which was different. Anyway, I'll come back here for this. This certainly reiterates the point that this is probably one of the best ramen shops on the island. And they are open until 2 AM, which makes it great for post-drinking (or late office night) eating binges.

hey mind to share which camera phone u used?
Actually, I've been rotating through quite a few phones recently, ranging from really poor quality ones to much better ones (trying to get good lighting in dimly lit rooms or evening-time dinners is the biggest challenge). The latest photos were shot on an N70 though.
cool thanks, that makes a 2.0 mega pixel cam, was thinking of getting a fone that has quality as good as your. cheers! btw, try ma maison at bugis junction, or angus house at takashimaya, great jap-western restaurants!
Yup - I've been to Angus House before; it's typical of Japanese localization. I went there before I started my blog so there is no entry here, but I did make a mention of it in passing in my Pepper Lunch writeup:

Hey, great blog u have here. I will certainly be linking up to this page whenever I am free to read your food adventures!
hi i stumbled upon your page and I LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING! I think I'm going to be your fan! Keep on eating and posting - it's really mouthwatering to read..
Love your blog, especially the ramen reviews, Im mad on Noodle House Ken aswell, and even take photos of it aswell! Ive been to Miharu once, and tried the special Miso ramen, I thought it was good but since they only give you 1 slice of chasu, that its not worth it. Anyway would really appreciate if you can go to Miharu again and try the other ramens there. Ive also been to Nanten (spelling?) near Lau Pa Sat, its got dam tasty chasu, but the soupbase at Kens is better. Ok catchya later. Julian.
i've always refered to this place as Ken's Ramen.
and its really really REALLY good. do try it's stewed egg Ramen, you'll be in for a surprise when you cut open the boiled egg. and also their cold noodle drizzled in seasame sauce. best.
