Sanook Kitchen Thai BBQ & Seafood at ION Orchard

Salt-grilled Fish with Fresh Vegetable and Thai Chili Sauce

Sanook Kitchen is a chain of casual Thai restaurants across the island, but interestingly, it's only the ION Orchard outlet that has the "Thai BBQ & Seafood" suffix attached. Things like that salt-grilled fish above were exclusive to this location (2 Orchard Turn #B3-13, 6509-0968).

I was quite happy with it, especially with its crispy fatty skin and moist tender flesh perfumed with lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves shoved into its belly (and surprisingly, it didn't taste muddy despite being tilapia). I don't know how the rest of the menu fares, but I could eat this again.

I remember when I was a kid in Hawaii, we used to catch tilapa in murky brackish streams and drainage ditches. We left them live in buckets of clean water for a week or so, and they would spit up the mud. They tasted pretty good. Having said that, I'm not a fan of tilapia...
