It's Spargel Season at Marché

Spargel

It's Spargel season again, and Marché certainly wasn't afraid to haul some in from Germany and charge nearly S$20 (US$16) for this plate. Yes, it was tender and delicate, but I'm still not sure if I get what all of the fuss is about. Maybe I just haven't had the right rendition yet.

There's no fuss. It's just that Spargel is ripe this time of year, so it's eaten.

Spargel is to the Germans what shark's fin is to the Chinese.
Expensive, bland and only popular because everybody thinks it's a must-eat delicacy.
At least no animals have to die for it.

I've never had white asparagus before. I don't like green asparagus. So would the white stuff be worth trying? Maybe I should just stay away. It would be just my luck if I decided I loved white asparagus only to find that it cost the earth to keep up with my new found white asparagus habit.
