House of Sundanese Food

It's interesting. The more and more I eat Indonesian food, the more and more I seem to like it. We stopped here for a quick pre-flight meal at Changi Terminal 2 today (#036-059, 6546-4839, with plenty of other locations around the island). I grabbed my favorite soto ayam, which had a hint of interesting spices in it (and a couple meatballs with a not so welcome texture), but it still went down quickly, especially after a squeeze or two of lime.

What was more impressive to me though was the emping chips and a kickin' belachan hot sauce that went perfectly with it (basically an Indonesian version of chips and salsa). The lime juice, or air jernk nipis, was described on the menu as being not too sweet our sour, but it turned out to be rather concentrated -in a good way. Granted, all I had were these few quick things, and maybe I still won't like the majority of Indonesian food, but this was very encouraging.

hi BMA... i'm one of your regular readers here. i thought i would just drop a comment about indonesian food.

i don't know about house of sundanese food taste, but among Indonesians in Singapore, it seems that the most popular Indonesian eating place is Ayam Penyet Ria. the price is reasonable, and the taste is not bad, moreover it's more authentic. for restaurant level, i will recommend Pagi Sore restaurant at China Square (Raffles/Chinatown area). do try it if you have the chance ^^

Haven't quite seen much review about Malay food...perhaps you've not tasted that many malay food. Since you quite like indonesian food, you may enjoy malay food as well! IT's rather similar but of course certain dishes are unique. Have you tried out Hajjah Maimunah? It's not a fine-dine Malay restaurant...but a cross between hawker-like ambience and an average restaurant. The food are all out on display at the check out counter; you pick what you want, pay for it and ENJOY! The ikan bakar is superb! hi bma, glad that you enjoy the sundanese food as I do (I'm a pure sundanese who live in jakarta). If you want to know more and learn how to make it, recently I collect the sundanese recipes from my parents, aunties, etc... I think it's not too hard to make, and very healthy indeed...
